INEM’s ambulances are rescue ambulances, designed to stabilize and carry patients who need care during transport, whose crew and equipment are able to provide basic life support.
INEM ambulances are based at fire stations and police stations designated as Emergency Medicine Stations. The Integrated Medical Emergency System also includes Reserve Stations, located at fire stations and premises of the Portuguese Red Cross. INEM is currently negotiating with the National Fire Service and with the Portuguese League of Firemen with a view to the creation of a National Rescue Ambulance Network.
